Presidents September Message:
I thought this wouldn't take very long but going over all the good times and many events the club has enjoyed this year, and realizing all the people in the club that contributed to a busy year , it is difficult not to miss something or someone. I must start out by thanking everyone for their help. First I had some goals which were not met. The signs are still on El Camino indicating we meet at Ampex. We did not have that new fundraiser at the race track. I did not make it to the International at Switzerland. The club membership declined and the closing of Bob's Courthouse Cafe was a little disruptive. The year started out great with Cal at the Trivia Bee attracting a lot of attention and the presently unjustified belief he would help get us many new members. The Key Club got a bigger bear and he is doing much better. The enthusiasm of the Key Club continues and their help when needed is appreciated. The Senior Tea ( apparently the last one at Hopkins Manor), the Xmas Party, the Scholarship Awards Dinner, the Bike Rodeo, Special Games, Al Julian Games, Tour de Cure, and Interclubs were again great. The Crab Cioppino was somewhat of a struggle but thanks to Nicole and Donna still made a good profit. Larry helped make the three day Carnival a big profit. The Club was well represented at all the DCMs, the Mid-Year with Lourdes and Mike preparing the Bike Rodeo presentation, and the District Convention in San Diego. Bill's help with agendas, providing the Board meeting room and chairing the Scholarship Committee is nice to depend on. Carols thankless job coordinating all the functions can not be overlooked. Thanks for all the club officers making it easy for me. Roy for taking over during my travels, Lynn for triple duty as club secretary and Division and District Foundations rep,, and Maureen the budget whiz. With the new Eliminate project, $5K less in scholarship donations, a one day Carnival and uncertainties with the Crab Cioppino, incoming President George Kerewicz will need all our help for next year. One challenge should be a lot of fun, leading us to the Kiwanis International Convention in New Orleans. Glenn Behm
