Early Bird Wins 1st Place Award-Orange Level!

“Congratulations!  We are pleased to advise you that your club newsletter, “The Early Bird”, has been selected as a winner of the Clyde L. Hurley Newsletter Award for the administrative year 2004-2005. Congratulations to Editor, Mike Akana and the club on this prestigious award”, wrote Peter C. Horton, District Secretary of California-Nevada-Hawaii District Office to Woodside Terrace A.M. Kiwanis Club President, Donna Vaillancourt.

Some of the feedback comments written from our club in our application included: “Members are really proud of our newsletter”, It has all of the elements that the club members are looking for, details and dates for coming events, plus articles on past events with photos. People love the photos”, “It’s a great recruiting tool, good calendar, great human interests, interactive”, “We appreciate all the time and effort editor, Mike Akana puts into getting this bulletin out each month. We have also heard how folks love that it is available on our web page so anybody can access it at any time”.

My father, Mel Cohn, a 56-year lifetime member of the San Carlos Kiwanis club also enjoys reading our bulletin every month.  He always comments on how this is such a well-done and excellent newsletter”.

I myself enjoy working with Mike on the bulletin each month, because he makes everything gel, with a professional, and fun agenda. All the writers and photographers--Donna, Lynne, Larry, Harry, Mike, George K., George B., Jan--blend together like a perfectly orchestrated symphony.  Congratulations and thank you to all who continue to create, contribute, support, and read our infamous, award winning  “Early Bird” newsletter.
