Show of Shows by Jan Borg
After months and months of planning and meeting and discussing, the Woodside Terrace A. M. Kiwanis Club Car Show Committee came through with a fun and exciting car Show and Health and Safety Fair. The Annual Car Show held on Sunday, May 23, 2004 at Sequoia High School in Redwood City, was the dream of President George Borg, and with the hard work, enthusiasm and drive of fellow Kiwanis members, it marked the beginning of a project sure to grow in the years ahead.
Larry and Lorretta Knight from “Let’s Talk Events” were instrumental in guiding the committee (George, Donna, Maureen, Bill, Roy, Melanie, Glenda, Larry) through the process of getting vendors and car

owners to participate. Nearly 80 Classic and Custom Cars rolled onto the tree-lined grounds like grand royalty in their jewels. One custom motorcycle made it more interesting. A smaller show of battery-operated cars were making chase through the courtyard. Mini-motorcycles were zooming around carrying proud Fathers who were buying them for their “kids”.
El Centro de Libertad, Sequoia Hospital, AAA Insurance, Boy Scouts of America, and many auto vendors, Hollywood Memorabilia, custom painters, custom tee shirts, were all set up in vendor booths. The Woodside Terrace Kiwanis Club ran a booth selling hot dogs, balloon pop a prizes, and tee-shirts. Thirty-three members of our club were there. Lynne, Larry, Elizabeth, Barbara, Bill, Maureen, Grace, Rob, Randy, Glenda, Roy, George, Donna, Wilma, Mary, and several others team-worked and enjoyed the show.
Cars were sponsored to win awards and parade the grounds at the end of the day. George entered three cars, a 1933 Ford Woody; a 1933 Ford Roadster, and a 1937 Yellow custom Chevy Hot Rod. Donna Vaillancourt representing the Woodside Terrace A.M. Kiwanis Club awarded the 1937 Yellow Chevy, and Pacific Stereo sponsored an award for the 1933 Woody, which were both proudly paraded in line with lots of other great cars.

Getting three classic cars from the windy, narrow hills of Redwood City just down 3 miles to the flatlands of town took good “caravan” timing. (How did we ever get by without our cell phones)?
The second annual Classic and Custom Car, Motorcycle and Health and Safety fair for 2005 will soon be in the planning, meeting and discussing phases. Experience tells us how we can do it better, and what needs to be changed for improvement. What started out, as a dream is now a prosperous project for the club. Taking risks and trying new things can only help our community spirit, as it certainly helps our own.

May 2004 was the first annual Classic and Custom Car, Motorcycle and Health and Safety Faire. May 2005 continued to draw car owners, car enthusiasts, and car club members from around the Bay Area. The car show will be held for the third year on the campus of Sequoia High School in Redwood City, California. Redwood City is in San Mateo County located about half way between San Jose and San Francisco on the San Francisco Peninsula. Sequoia High School is on El Camino Real and there is easy access from Highway 101 and Highway 280.
The free entry makes the show popular among local residents. Entries are charged a modest fee. Sponsors cover the cost of awards, t-shirts, and raffle as well as part of the overhead expenses. Proceeds are used to support the work of the Woodside Terrace A.M. Kiwanis Club through the Woodside Terrace A.M. Kiwanis Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization.
In 2006 the name was simplified to a more memorable Kiwanis Car Show. Our June 2006 show will include an Arts and Crafts Faire. We still welcome Classics, Customs, and Motorcycle entries. Health and Safety Vendors are welcome as well. Non-profit and government information booths continue to be free.
The car show continues to be free to the public. There is no gate fee. Cost to participants are kept low thanks to our corporate and private sponsors.
